Wednesday Words

"Once in a young lifetime one should be allowed to have as much sweetness as one can possibly want and hold. "

Tricks and Treats are just around the corner....be prepared for all of that candy! We think this quote should say "Once a year one should be allowed to have as much sweetness as one can possibly want and hold!"

Silver Shadows

It gleams
It reflects
It's makes something special out of something ordinary...it's silver!

We love silver - and we add it to displays in the store. As we were walking around today, we spotted shadows among the silver!

Go on over to Hey Harriet for more shadows for Shadow Shot Sunday - it might just put a gleam in your eye!

It's Friday...We're in Love....

We're in love with glass cylinders and rubber bands!

What??!!
Let us explain, before you think we are completely nuts!

Last night we held a Holiday Table Decorating Class. We talked about all sorts of easy things you could do to "wow" your guests with.

Everyone agreed this votive idea really packed a big punch of fall color and style for your table.

1. get a glass....any glass - water glass, cylinder glass, heck, we decided that a mason jar would work great too!

2. put a rubber band around your glass then tuck fresh (or fake) leaves in the rubber band, going all around the glass.

Use leaves that are still on the tree - or that have just fallen (crispy ones are a bit hard to work with!)

Don't want to use leaves?

Use artichoke leaves, asparagus, dried fruit - the sky is the limit!

Once you are done putting your leaves around - get a ribbon and cut to size and put it around the rubber band to cover. Tie in a knot - and Voila! A pretty votive for your table!

It's Friday...and we're in love.... with the unlikely combination of rubber bands and glass......

Wednesday Words

"A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween."
~Erma Bombeck

Trick or Treat is fast approaching! We dug into the archives for this picture of Kevin & Karla getting ready for the big night. Isn't this quote so true? We always thought we tricked Grandma when we went to her door! And what did Grandma put in your plastic pumpkin? Only the best! Our Grandma would have popcorn balls mmmmm! After the "treating" was over we would always go back over and make caramel apples - what fun memories! Any fun Halloween memories for you?

Christmas Dreaming

Do you hear what I hear?
Way up in the sky little dear......

This week has been just crazy busy! Yes...you are seeing things pertaining to Christmas...do not adjust your computer screen - "them there are Christmas decorations ma!"

Friday night we brought down the house...actually the attic! Christmas came down and the mess began.
This begins the one and a half weeks of ugliness in the store...you just might want to avoid it (no...no....we are just kidding....come - we'll just blindfold you!)

Anyway - we had to write a bit for the Buzz Book on something that ads sparkle to your Christmas....so we thought we'd feature these new glitter reindeer

So, we quickly created a photo shoot with them.
I took the pictures, while Karrie got the deer to give us the look we wanted to go for....she did a nice job - don't you think?

Wednesday Words

"Life is one grand, sweet song,
so start the music!"
~ Ronald Reagan

Here we have our Aunt Becky, who loves music. When we were little, she would teach us all sorts of wonderful songs. We even remember picking her up from the airport and singing all the way home (an hour and a half, mind you!). Aunt Becky...this Wednesday Word is for you!

Junkin' Monday

Sometimes you can walk past things at your favorite junkin' spot over & over again....
Then it happens!

You might see something for what it is meant to be and think...that won't work

Or, it may be filthy...and it could be colored by a marker.
But....at some point you walk by it and think.....what if?

What if..

It would clean up?

I used it for a pillow instead?

What if?

Well....we took that chance today...we weren't finding much, but we did see these seats (that we've seen several times before, mind you!) but it clicked in the brain today!

We took them home, cut them off of the chair

then pretreated, washed and hung dry....

and guess what - it came out!

Now...off to find some fabric to make some lovely pillows!

See what junk everyone else got this weekend as you visit Clara & Marcella - the most glamorous junkin' sisters - for Junkin' Monday!

Oh....not only did we get the seat covers...but we came home with this toboggan....sometimes when you junk, you come home with the strangest things!

We thought about making a wall sculpture out of it, or we could hang it on the porch to hold the mail, a huge coffee table, or maybe a twin bed for a cool wintry room......but, we think the kiddies have ideas of their own!

Decorating with Shadows & Pumpkins

It's that time of week again....Shadow Shot Sunday, where we search for shadows in and around the store - we found this one, just outside of the store this week. It is pumpkin time isn't it? Time to decorate and think Fall!

This season is always a struggle with us...it's time to put pumpkins out...yet you hate to tear out all that lovely foliage that you've been watering and feeding all summer long - as it becomes the most lovely urn of flowers & greens ever...you are expected to rip it all out for fall!

We love to use both (we can't bare to part with either!)
So....we come up with displays like this...

We love using Cinderella pumpkins (the flatter, squaty ones) to stack by themselves, or with other pumpkins.

With shadows...and without - we love to decorate with pumpkins!

For more shadows around the world - visit Hey Harriet and discover your inner shadow searcher...you'll be glad you did!

We are so in love with this handy tool from Martha Stewart!

How much fun is this going to be?!!

It's Friday...and we're in love with glitter painting!

Ghostly Punch

Two weeks ago at our Open House we served this foamy brew....
it got quite a few remarks & we're sure that every Halloween Party in NW Ohio will now be serving this ghastly punch!

We saw the original recipe in Southern Lady magazine, but as a green concoction.

What's in it?
Orange Sherbet
Orange Pop
Sunny D
Lemon Lime Pop
Mixed to taste!

Garnish with Ghost peeps

We know we have a couple of Spooky functions coming up & thought we'd take some along....isn't it boootiful?

Wednesday Words

"Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel across the country from coast to coast without seeing anything."

~Charles Kuralt, On the Road With Charles Kuralt

Isn't it nice to just take a drive - going through little towns to see what that particular area is like? This quote is certainly true - isn't it? Getting places quick is one thing....missing out on all of the charm of a city and it's surrounding towns is such a shame!

Trailing Shadows

The weather is crisp & perfect for football....but it's been overcast this week....so we looked inside the store for the perfect shadow!

This fall garland that is trailing it's way down, was casting the prettiest shadows today on our back wall...hope you all enjoy!

For more shadows from inside & out, head on over to Hey Harriet to follow a trail of shadows from around the world!

It's Friday....and We're in Love!

photo courtesy of Better Homes & Gardens
We are certainly in love with this dining room today....but most of all we love that chandelier!
According to the article the chandelier is made out of a French cloche from Sentimento Antiques....no wonder we love it!

Quilted Fall Goodness

Happy October everyone!
Can you believe it?
Here in Ohio, we can.
This week definitely has a chill in the air... in fact, wardrobes are making the switch and extra quilts are being added to the beds.

But don't forget that quilts can be used... well, anywhere! Inside they are wonderful on chairs, beds, tables and sofas to name a few. They add warmth, color, patterns, texture and comfort. Outside they work just as hard, and can be used just as you would inside.

We just received an order of our fabulous quilts and this beauty was in it. In fact, Mom was in while we were unpacking and she begged and pleaded with us until we let her put this one on her side porch.

Actually, we know our Mother well enough that we've learned to order a second set with her in mind......after all, she did make us some awfully yummy deserts for the open house!
