Seeing Speckles

Karrie was busy decorating mom's house this week.

I am so in LOVE
with this little vintage dish filled with
moss, feathers & speckled eggs

It's just too darn cute for words!

Sweet little way to welcome in the spring!!

Wishing you all
a blessed Easter weekend!

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas...

'Tis a crazy(er) time of year for The Summer Kitchen Girls...
But we are finally trying to get a bit of holiday jingle going on at home all while we gear up for our Joyeux Noel Open House at the store this weekend.
Probably could have had much more in the way of decorating done if we wouldn't have taken the day off to shop... but those gifts won't buy themselves, right?;0)

A Touch of Blue

 Do you know what?
We love that white shabby style....
but we could never live in it.

These girls love
COLOR
way too much!  One of our favorite way to add some
fun vintage color is by adding blue....

You'll never guess what kind of blue
these girls love to add...
well, you just might :)

We love finding pieces of
blue transferware.
There really is nothing like adding it for a
POP
of color in your room
no matter what you're decorating style...

don't you think?

It probably all started with
  grandma's china set....
every holiday it would be out on the table
and we'd be in charge
of putting grandma's sliver knives and spoons
 beside each plate
and putting the fork on a napkin
 folded by our little hands.

ahhh....you can tell
Thanksgiving is coming...
good memories always come with it doesn't it?

The Embellishment Factor

When you look all day
at a ho-hum pillow,
you might think that there has
got
to be something you could do to take it from this.....

to This....

So, I took some old fabric we had
cut it into strips, and fashioned it into a bow

I then put one of my vintage pins
on it to hold it in place....

I sat it on top of my pillow...
already it looks better :)

I dug through the ribbon drawers and found
a ribbon that would work!

I tied the ribbon around the pillow and after I knotted it
and tacked it into place with my needle & thread.

Of course,
I had to add a few more loops
to make a nice full bow.
Then I pinned the pin on top of it....

Voila!

What an exciting pillow I have now!

What will you Embellish?!!

World Up!

Gosh...do we ever LOVE candlesticks!
Rarely do we ever put candles in them in the store displays though...
During Easter there are eggs toppling them...
Christmas there are vintage Christmas bulbs...

But this fall...
well, we were hunting for a spot to display our new mini globes
and guess what?

Yep....
we put the world up on a pedestal

and we're loving it!

Bringing the Outside In....

We love bringing
 the outside....in!

This wicker rocker
spent many a day on the porch by the previous owner,
but we couldn't see keeping it outside
so, we brought it in.....
and LOVE it!

What else do we love bringing inside from the outside?
Urns
Topiaries
Statuary

What about you?
 Do you have a passion
for using outdoor items inside?

The French Touch....

Hey all!!
It's Friday....
and we are soooooo in LOVE
with this Wallpaper book.....

Imagine the pitter-patter of our hearts
as we saw this at the paint store.....
we
HAD
to bring this one home
to
DROOL
and
DROOL
some more!!!

"Bruxelle Linen"
'The family crest, well known in European history,
inspired this masculine design on a rich linen ground.'

{we are of course showing the pictures of the wallpaper in use
so that you can drool right along with us!}

"Biblioteca"
'A fine etched-style pattern depicting romantic European architecture'

What we love about wallpaper
{besides that it adds sooooo much to a room}
Is that if you see it in one color....

It's available in another shade!

We also LOVE getting
AMAZING ideas
when we look through the books!

Just look at this pattern on the wall
in the paper sample here...oh my!!!

"Empire Damask"
'A single damask shape inspired by French empire design styles,
rendered on a rustic linen ground.

you can see hot this paper has a bit of metallic
in it.....GORGEOUS!!!!

Now....
check this one out.....

"Manuscript"
'A pattern reminiscent of distressed plaster work
with a modern take on manuscript etchings.'

We LOVE how they
style the wallpaper for pictures
~ just look at those cool vintage clocks!

 "Balustrade"
'A lightly distressed ground with soft metallic threads
combined with a pattern reminiscent of antique wood carvings'

Then this one gets a lot of
oooooo's and ahhhhhhh's
from everyone.....

"Etamine"
'A rich moire background texture supports a Nouveau Style damask
to create a rich yet subtle effect'

LOVE
that it has this matching pattern!

Well....
it's Friday
and we are in LOVE with
 "Maison Gallerie"
wallpaper book
by Seabrook

Hope you enjoyed
our little visual journey of France...

Thought you'd enjoy a little
"Bal Petite Bal"

A Haunting Effect

Are you
so excited?
It's Tuesday....and that means
there's another great Halloween
decorating tip
from The Summer Kitchen Girls....

This year
we wanted to have a hauntingly
good time decorating outdoors

{of course this is LOADS of fun indoors as well!}

Just find yourself some cheesecloth
{we got ours from Lowe's}

We opened the package up
and unfolded the cheesecloth
and then we stuck it in a bowl of tea
to stain it a bit....

we can't have cobwebs
looking like they are right out of the package now!

After we pulled the cheese cloth out
we let it air dry...
then
the fun begins....

S  t  r  e  t  c  h
that cheese cloth out and cover as
little or as much as you want!

It's an easy
Halloween effect
No
BONES
about it!

Arranging the Dead

It's that time of year...you know,
the one where we have to come up with a great idea
for the outside of the store to inspire all.....

So we ripped out everything in our pots
except for our purple potato plant

Then we started to insert some
expired
cone flowers from the garden

We added some festive orange lights
and some long, straight twigs
then wrapped that potato vine
all around the bottom of the arrangement

For a Halloween arrangement
that is
DEAD ON!

Playing in the Garden......

Back behind the store...
we've created a little area...
something a little whimsical
to make us smile

Last winter we sat this table and chairs out back

It's been so fun to watch the flowers
grow around it all....

Our brother
brought us this old barn door
so we used it as a backdrop for our table.

It is nice...
but it just looked like it needed
something.....

shiny....
we have lots of shiny....

So, up went some fun
junk....

and now it is as cute as can be!

Now....we have the other side of the garden...
gasp!
a door with nothing on it.....

{we feel a part two coming on!}

See
what a bit of junk will do...
it will get you all crazy thinking
and make you think that
you need to spread it around!

Thank heaven's
 for "junk"

Happy Monday everyone!!
