The Outdoor Decorating Hang-Up

As you must know by now,
we love decorating the outside!
You could say we've got quite the
Hang-up

Sometimes we use vintage plates....but sometimes
you might want something lighter....

We didn't want to put holes in the vinyl siding
on the garage here,
so we put up command strips and used some
Melamine plates that we found in fun colors & patterns

Just for fun
we then put this old vintage tray in the
window box under the window of the garage....

They sky's the limit!
oh...what will we do next?

Lemonade on the Porch

Come and sit down on the porch...
it's time to cool down with some lemonade
and to chat about some
 Vintage Inspired Entertaining ideas....

We've used a vintage silver tray
that we just picked up from and Estate sale this month....
We prefer this silver tray @ $6
to any plastic thing that comes from the store these days!
We've put these sliced lemons
in a little vintage sherbet glass

We've placed this adorable flow blue bone dish
(that we got this spring at the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market)
on the tray so that your guests will have something
to put their lemons on when they are finished with them

We've put a sweet little embroidered vintage tea towel
on the tray for color, but also to catch any drips that might occur....

A pretty cut glass vintage pitcher that we inherited into our collection
holds some delicious cold lemonade

Now it is time for a
History Lesson:

These....
these pretty glasses we found at an estate sale this spring as well
they are called "Oak Harbor Glass"

Oak Harbor
is a town not far away that these glasses came from.

During the war
{not sure if it was I or II}
A gentleman set up the
Oak Harbor Glass Company

and taught women how to etch glass....
and that is where these glasses came from!

 **************
And now we come to the
Entertaining Tip:

Last year on vacation we picked these pretty hankies up

Take assorted colors of pretty hankies
and tie them around your glasses

Bigger hankies for larger glasses
Smaller hankies for the petite glasses....

Isn't this the cutest??
Not only will the hankies help the glasses from sweating
but
they will help your guests know
 which glass is theirs!

We LOVE this...
and have been dying all week to show you all!!

"What to do with all of this burlap??"

Just need some staples....

a ladder helps.....

Yep....you just start
gathering and stapling...

hee hee hee.....
good thing it will be dark when her hubby comes home ~ lol!!

Well, there you have it ~ bringing the
INSIDE
to the Outside!

Chalkin' it Up!

Outside of the store
we have a little table that has its top painted
with chalkboard paint

It keeps our little visitors very happy!
Now, yesterday we had quite the creative young lady
come to the store with her mother.

This is what we found.....

Take a closer look from the other side...
Maybe we should say
"Come and get it!!"

for we seem to have mashed potatoes, gravy, a chicken leg
and some delicious veggies...
a drink, a piece of pie, silverware, napkins...
and boy do we love the candles....completing the mood!

What a dinner!

You might want to think about
Chalkin'
something of yours up for lots of entertainment!

Diggin' Our Front Porch!

We were busy Planting for fall....

Digging up some dirt
in our pots so we could plant

Some gorgeous
DEAD
tree branches!!

We pulled out some of our flowers

In one pot we placed rocks around the branches
to keep it stable...

Sure is pretty...
isn't it???

OK....maybe "pretty"
by Halloween standards!

In this planter we left our Russian Sage in this pot
and added the rocks, the vintage shovel
& one of our Solar Garden Lights in the pot.

A perfect planting!!

And what, you ask, is this?

Why, it's one of our fabulous fall topiaries
we created to flank our entrance!

A Window of Opportunity...

 It's simple...really!
When Life gives you windows....
(lots of old, broken windows)

You hang them from your
Pine Trees

Presenting a very Lovely
Window of Opportunity!

Nothing is so often irretrievably missed
as a daily opportunity.

Tool Ta-da!

Karrie has the most glorious,
chippy old Milk House on her property.
Best part...(besides the chippy part!) is that there were treasures inside!!

So...what do you do with old farm tools that are of no use to you?

Why....you make art
outdoor
art

plain...and simple!

Welcoming you to a reminder of what once was....

and, a reminder that what
could have ended in the junk pile
just became a clever
decoration

and that is what it's all about...
isn't it Sammie?
