Smiles from Heaven

This weekend I walked into my dining room

 and THERE it was!

My grandma's Christmas Cactus was blooming!

Now....don't think that this happens a lot...

Maybe once every 3 years!

Before she moved into a nursing home

I was put in charge of the cactus...

clearly I was not the one to keep it...

This cactus was 

GINORMOUS

and my kids were little...and let's just say that it lost about half of it's size...

but I did remember to water it

sometimes...

ahhhhh! The Pressure!

So today I'm smiling because there it is...

PROOF

that it is still living....

and even though Grandma isn't with us anymore

She's sending me a smile back from Heaven!!!

{I think she knew I had it in me ~ lol!}

We just had to share our picture of the old tub with flowers in it

that we have out in front of the store....

We've been getting a crazy amount of attention on

facebook from this picture...so we thought 

we'd better share it with you!

Is it because it is in an old wash tub?

Is it the old chair base that it is sitting on?

Is it the tip that we gave...

to put sedum in the tub so that it will come back every year 

and you can plant accent colors in your favorite annuals?

It could be that it is just plain pretty......

We may never know ~ lol!!

Flower Power!!!

Last night we had our Flower Arranging Workshop 

focusing on Garden Flowers!

We went out into the gardens

and Karrie showed us what kind of flowers 

to use and how to harvest them

for arranging

We learned all about arranging

flowers and different methods to use.

It's always a joy to clean up after

a big flower explosion!

The rewards are worth it!!

This weekend we created 

the prettiest 

bouquets 

for a lovely wedding

Thought you'd love to see the bouquet 

that the bride carried down the isle....

Soft pastel colors with beautiful

Cabbage Roses, Stock, Ranunculus, Dusty Miller 

and Vintage Pins

Heirloom hankies 

graced the bottom of the bouquet.

{the bride's mother gave us the sleeve from her wedding

dress and it is covering the stems behind the hankies!!}

The Bridesmaids 
carried a brighter bouquet of Cabbage Roses, 

Carnations, Asters, Lizzianthus, Dahlias and Dusty Miller.....

A Shower of Flowers

The trees have been so pretty this spring!

Even though it's sad to see the petals drop

it's so pretty to see the petals

scattering all around!

On the sidewalk, driveway, even on us as we walk by!

Unpacking Some Sunshine

We just unpacked some

today...

are just the thing

to brighten any day!

Snowball Fight

There's an

Old Fashioned Snowball Bush

in my back yard

I love it when it blooms.

I noticed that after a hard rain,

 the bush was drooping down

and on the ground were many petals....

It looked like there was

a snowball fight!

Now, as I was out taking pictures

my kids came up and asked

why....

always why!

And I told them that it was for the blog,

and that this was

a Snowball Bush

Of course you know what happened next....

there really WAS

a snowball fight....

but they don't hurt nearly as much as the real thing!

Nesting & Gnats

Out and about this weekend

we were looking at all of our spring flowers

and found this up on the old windmill nextled in our lilac bush

Can you even imagine

making a nest....with a beak!

A little miracle indeed!

It will be interesting to see if we have any tennants this spring!

One thing that we have a lot of this spring

is plenty of spring flowers....

The myrtle is out and blooming

{crazy that it's doing this so early!}

Even our glads are popping up!

Hyacinths have been in bloom for a week....

and the daffodils are so pretty to look at...

until you start to look close...

then you see them....

GNATS!

Drat those Gnats!

This is such a cool picture...but with nats!

Of course, you have to think that this one is pretty cool,

you can see the gnats flying ~ lol!
