Wednesday Words

"Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace. "

We've done a little canning this fall, not nearly like Great Grandma Carpenter and her Canning Club would have done! Here's a snap shot of her club - we can only imagine how much food they canned during the summer & fall!

Our Wednesday Words are brought to you by our Alphabet Images and our Wall Words. Have a favorite saying or quote? Put it up on the wall!

Fall Has Arrived

Ahhh.... is not fall one of the best season's to decorate?
The first day of Open House was wonderful....the weather has cooled down a bit & leaves are starting to gather around.

As we closed up shop Friday night, we straightened, swept and fluffed things to be ready for the morning crowd. It was then, we went back and grabbed the camera to take some shots of the store..... to show you a few things that are new....these candles - well they smell sooo good they make your mouth water ~ pumpkin vanilla, caramelized pralines and harvest...it's no wonder!

Whooooo Whoooo! We just love our owl notepads...and these fantastic golden vintage doilies.

Eeeeek! Spiders - our favorite type.....decorative ones!

We sold a lot of these signs today. "Get Spooked" and "Trick or Treat"

Then there are these gorgeous berries - the perfect fall color!

{by the way...thanks for your well wishes for my son...it was a close race, but he pulled through... and won...."I" guess the "eyes" had it!}

What did you think it would be? Surly you MUST know us better than that by now!
All joking aside....we're back! And just in time too.....tomorrow starts our annual
Share the Bounty Fall Open House
Share the Bounty - 'cause we'd love for you to bring in a canned good item
{or lots o' items!} for the Gibsonburg Food Pantry
Fall Open House - 'cause it's fall y'all - and we'd love to show you all of the new things....and to of course see you're smiling faces!
It seems we had a cookie problem on the computer...but we took care of that!
But since we are on the subject of cookies....just you wait to see what mom has made for you -mmmmmmmm you'll love fall at The Summer Kitchen refreshment table....
but more on that later!

Since we weren't ready for the "cookie" problem to be over quite yet...
we hope you enjoyed our lovely candy eyeballs that my son used for his campaign
for student council president {...we know you're going to ask...there was a little paper
stuck to them that said: "Eye Pick Nick"}
Anyway... more serious {maybe not-so-serious too}, fun & fantastic pictures
of the store & all it's wonders will be up tomorrow!

Wednesday Words

Hello There!
We are still here...we are just having some difficulty posting pictures...so we thought we'd tell you to close your eyes and imagine a picture...no, no, now listen...we'd describe it with colorful adjectives - but, that would make it hard to read now wouldn't it - you know, the eyes being closed and everything!
So....this picture-less Wednesday Words is brought to you by our Wall Enhancers and Alphabet Images...over there on the right hand side (hey - you in Indiana....open your eyes back up!)
Anyway....here's your Wednesday Words:

Pickin' Purses

Isn't this cute?
My daughter got this purse from my mother-in-law several years ago

She absolutely loved carrying it all around and put all of her treasures in it. I've got to admit....I kind of liked it & thought of carrying it myself at times...

however, she took care of any notions of that! She wrote her name (in permanent ink, mind you!) right on the inside.

Of course, I cringed, because, you see, it is an Enid Collin's purse. Which, at the time, Country Home declared a "highly collectible" thing that month!

Oh well, it was her purse...right?

So, I visited Ebay and saw what was available for mommy's to carry, and found all sorts of lovely purses - but they always went over my budget! I had forgotten all about these delicious vintage purses until yesterday...

Karrie and I were shopping at the Maumee Antique Mall, and I spotted this... a vintage Enid Collins "Pavan" purse...mmmmm!

Dare I ask what the price is? YES - of course - always ask the price! Anyway, the price was right...and even better Karrie ended up getting it for my birthday & I am sooo excited!

Enid Collins has such an interesting history - I just love it because she was an entrepreneur and created beloved purses for women in the 1940's-1970's.

She was a Texas rancher's wife, and wanted to make some extra money to help her family make ends meet. She started making her leather and canvas bags and sold them sold in the gift shops of nearby dude ranches. Enid became a household name when Neiman Marcus placed their first order.

I just love to hear stories like this - don't you? You'll notice that Enid Collin's purses are quite fun and whimsical and easy to spot - great pieces of art to set around, as well as carry on your arm!

A Well Played Lamp

Well...
you've seen it all now, haven't you!

I played the clarinet in Jr. High and part of High School before switching over to the percussion section. So, naturally, I have this clarinet and it's time for my daughter to choose and instrument... "anything but the clarinet" I told her!

But what to do with my old clarinet? Sell it? Let a friends daughter borrow it to squawk and squeak all over the neighborhood? Well...this is it! We found this lamp on Ebay ~ I think the neighbors would like seeing this in the window ~ don't you? {can't be any worse than the neighbor's leg lamp down the street!}

Well...it's time for Junkin' Monday...with those crazy junkin' sisters over at Nice and Easy Antiques! Although we didn't get a junkin' moment in this past weekend, we did bring a funny idea - 'eh girls?

Endless Possibilities

1. It seems that we have magazines everywhere...yes, we are addicted, but we need to do research...but what to do after we tear out all the articles we need?
2. Whenever we need to send a note to someone, we never seem to have note cards!

Today on Design*Sponge we found the answer!
This argyle patterned note card has truly inspired us today! How about silhouettes of animals, trees, flowers. You could make your initials or some fun squiggly shapes...there are so many things you could do! This would be a great gift too....get the kiddies out and have them make some for their teachers, babysitters (just think how much the grandparents would love this!)
What else? Well, why not paste things on paper or canvas to make a piece of art with? The possibilities are endless - just look at the fun you can have with old magazines, making them into something so useful!

Bye-Bye Brown....Hello Blue!

Today is Friday...and we're once again in love!

Our once brown wall....got a face lift this week as we patched holes, and prepped them for the new color....

Let's hear it for the blue!
First a coat all over the brown....

{Pittsburgh Paint's Cathedral Glass}

Then we color wash it with a darker shade of blue
{Pittsburgh Paint's Vining Ivy}
Then...a stencil pattern done by the talented Jill Otermat ~ faux finisher extraordinaire!

Just enough pattern...but not too busy to compete with pictures...
As you can see, this new wall completely changes the look of the hutch below! We are so excited...but enough of that...guess it's time to put the store back together so we can show you some new things!

It's Friday....what are you in love with today?
