Picture Perfect

You could say that we are hooked on great wall groupings!

Hanging pictures.....and even the question of "what" to put up on your walls can be an obstacle for some. Two weeks ago we went over to our friend Carol's house. She had her walls painted and we needed to put some pictures up on her now, blank wall. Many of you may remember Carol's home tour here.

Carol just had her walls painted a lovely color from Benjamin Moore called Peanut Butter. It is such a warm and inviting color....and provides a beautiful backdrop for Carol's collections.

{We're hooked on the color....and the collections!}

One of the easiest ways for us to configure a wall grouping, is to grab things we are thinking of using on a wall, or walls in our home. We then begin laying out our designs on the floor to see how they will look. Once we decide on a design we begin hanging the things in the middle and then go to one side and then the other.

Sometimes you can get stumped when you are working on a wall display. Usually, we find that we need another piece of something {sometimes we know what that "something is", sometimes not...but it usually means that it is something we don't have....and we have to go junkin'!}

This happened at Carol's on the second wall.....

We tried several things that just didn't seem to jive....we wanted to use the floral painting that her father had done. We really wanted to use the adorable vintage dog print....but to balance that white, we really needed something else. Instead of putting it on a list to get when she went junkin'.....Carol went and found this plate in another room, and things started coming together!

We had one more empty spot....our last obstacle was

what to put in that lower right corner......"What about a frame.....an empty one....do you think that would work?" Carol asked.

We went and got it and put it there ~ it was still missing something....then "Do you have something oval to put in the frame?" I asked. Carol thought a moment and said...I have a horse in the other room. We went and grabbed it. What do you think?

We were ecstatic ~ it was perfect...we were in love and immediately hooked!

I think it all looks great! I always get a little nervous when I put a collection of frames on the wall. I should mix more cool stuff in like you did! Thanks!

Groupings are so fun, albeit tricky, to arrange. I have a stairway on which I'm contemplating adding a photo gallery. Should be interesting to see how it turns out! Thanks for sharing. ~Arleen

I love your groupings...great tips and fun elements...things that are not the "usual" always catch my eye and my interest.

I definitely start blubbering with I have to group pictures. I call our fried Gordon who is a natural with no fear.

I've got a box of crazy stuff in my basement--how about you come over to my place, I'll brew a big pot of tea (sorry, it'll have to be plain ol' Lipton), and you dig through and work your magic on my walls?

You've got a gift! Everything looks great (and my kids would do backflips over your horse).

I love the arrangement! How unique! I'm not sure I could pull it off in my own home. The wall color is lovely too. I never thought I'd like yellow but it looks very pretty and warm.

Love what you did with the walls! Looks great! I like the little horse inside the blank frame. That's a nice trick. Thanks for always sharing your expertise with us. :-)

This looks so good! I really like the idea of arranging it on the floor first, too. What a great tip. And the paint color is very warm and cozy! :)

Hi girls :)

I remember Carol's home! This is really lovely and the horse in the middle of the frame was brilliant!

Peanut Butter paint... hmmm.... sounds like something I should have in my home ;)

Looks great! I love doing a grouping like that. I've only done it in our bedroom so far. We need more walls I guess!
