While flipping through a
1950 Woman's Day magazine
this weekend
we found this picture....
We had just been talking with a customer this week
about gloves in the 1950's.
She was telling us how her mother was horrified
at all the younger women who were starting to wearing these
short gloves
...for heaven's sake!
Didn't they know
that gloves are to cover the skin?
:)
We loved it!
It reminded us of how our dad had a fit
if we put a pair of sweats on to go to practice at school
(sweats were not worn in school!)
Now....look at all the people that wear their
pajama bottoms shopping!
Anyhow...we found something fun facts about
Gloves
in Victorian times....
Gloves were used as flirtation codes...
a little more discrete than
"yes" or "no"
stitched to them!!
Enjoy...
and try a few out
the next time you put a pair of gloves on!
Twirling one's gloves around her fingers
- We are being watched
- We are being watched
Holding the tips of the gloves downward
- I wish to be acquainted
- I wish to be acquainted
Gently smoothing the gloves
- I wish I were with you; I would like to talk with you
- I wish I were with you; I would like to talk with you
Holding one's gloves loosely in her right hand
- Be contented
- Be contented
Holding one's gloves loosely in her left hand
- I am satisfied
- I am satisfied
Striking one's gloves over her hands
- I am displeased
- I am displeased
Tossing one's gloves up gently
- I am engaged
- I am engaged
Tapping one's chin with her gloves
- I love another
- I love another
Dropping one of her gloves
- Yes
- Yes
Dropping both gloves
- I love you
- I love you
Enjoy your Monday everyone!!
