Giving it Personality!

Had a project that I helped my daughter with a while ago....

We took a small plain nightstand
{actually it was a water-stained brown & we painted it}

Added a little Mod Podge
& cut some scrapbook paper to fit the legs of the table...

Put a coat of Mod Podge on top of the legs
and then placed the paper on top.  When we finished, we put another
coat of Mod Podge on top to seal it.

We thought it turned out really cute!

There was no knob so we drilled a hole and added a cute vintage glass knob

We switched some lights & accessories around

and put things back to her liking....

There...
A cute little table.....with personality!

Tickle Me Pink!

Karrie was busy last week
with several cans of
PINK
spray paint.....

How can spraying an urn and sticks
make two girls so
giddy
we don't know...it just does!

What are you tickled pink about today?

What's Bloomin?

Geraniums!

Grandma Norma would always have pots and pots
of geraniums sitting in all of her windows during the winter

So, when it came to decorating a wall
 in Karrie's laundry room
What better than Geranium pots!

And of course,
since Karrie studied plants in her
herbaceous class in school,
we just had to use the genus name for Geranium

What's Bloomin' in your house today?

Easy Entertaining

Love it!
How easy is this great idea from Southern Living Magazine?
Chalkboard Paint & Glasses
Doesn't get any simpler - or cuter for that matter!
(Put this one in the idea file for sure!)

Planting Some Love

Challenges.....
we love them!

Our Grandpa has entrusted a shelf to us that we must decorate seasonally over at Bethesda Care Center.

Fall: Pumpkins, black vases with wheat in them
Christmas: Wrapped Presents
Winter: ______________

{Well, we wanted snowballs to carry us through till March, but Styrofoam balls were soooo expensive}

We're on a budget, see, so we looked & looked and decided on a Valentine theme.

So,
we grabbed
our trusty
Mod-Podge,
Paper Doilies,
Left-over
Christmas
Wrapping paper,
and cardboard heart boxes....

We created

We love creating

We patiently love creating

Hey...who's idea was this to do all of this creating again???

Oh ya....me!
We pieced

We glued

We pieced

We glued

Until we got all four boxes patched up & glued

{We'll interrupt here and note that this is NOT the greatest craft project for kids...why, I barely made it through it all!}

While the boxes were drying we worked on our LOVE

No, we are not fighting right now!

We were painting some cardboard LOVE letters

We planted those LOVE letters into pots {painted of course!} and mossed them up and put some sparkling heart garland up them

After we placed the boxes around we tool some left over doily hearts out & placed them about with some rose garland, which we cut up and placed around.

We think it turned out cute...what about you?

It's Friday...and We're In Love

You may remember that we painted the back of the cabinets last fall a bright shade of green...

No more! A lovely shade of pink is now gracing the backdrop of our cupboard...

It's perfect for Valentines...and will swing right into spring with us!

It's Friday....what are you in love with today???

"New" Year Color Inspiration

A New Year!
Time to take a look at the house & think about a new color on the wall, or painting or reupholstering some furniture....sometimes it's some new curtains or pillows that will do the trick. It seems that after taking all of the Christmas decorations down, it is time for something new!

Shall we have some fun by taking a look back at color trends in 1958 from
Better Homes & Gardens ?

We love the colors above in the blue and green pallet of Group #9.
It is quite calming - don't you think?

Group #1 looks like it could go in a lot of homes right now. Look at those teals and, especially, those greys!

Group #2 is the Earth Tone selection for readers in 1958 - we love this color board....we even love all of the fabric & carpeting choices!

Now...how about Better Homes & Gardens
HOT Color Predictions for 2010

Take a look at the paint swatches....there's a lot of similarities to the 1958 color boards.....

It just goes to show you that, once again, what is old is new again!

Kitchen Talk

Hey there! No, we haven't fallen off of the face of the earth...we really are here - just still plugging away at Christmas - Open House is a week away!

We took a break today to check out some kitchens that have been re-done. Chris Smith and Jill Otermat have been creatively (and economically) saving the "face" of kitchens in our area and we thought we would share....

Chris takes care of prepping and painting the cabinetry of the kitchens, while Jill puts her artistic touch on the finish of the doors - we are just drooling over these finishes!

But wait....that's not all!

Jill also paints counter tops - now here's a real money saver!

Look at this finish....how cool is that?

Now, of course, your mind is bursting with questions - right?

Well...we asked.
The finish is made up of crushed marble and dries to a very hard surface suitable for counter tops and floors.

After the resurfacing is complete, it is sealed with a special product designed for this purpose. It is waterproof and heat resistant up to 500 degrees.

This product can be used inside and out.

Doesn't this just transform the room?

Please tell us that our heads are not the only ones swimming with all of the places Chris and Jill could come and do this to?

Check out this great finish in a bathroom that she did....love it!

So, what colors can you do...well, it's our lucky day - Jill custom tints each job, so she has never done the same finish twice.

We love this - counter tops that are uniquely yours!

So....are you interested?
Just think...a fresh new kitchen with paint (& creative talent!)

Give us a shout if you want reach Jill and Chris for an awesome kitchen makeover...oh, and wipe the drool off of your screen!
