School will be starting in a few weeks....
so we thought it was time for some
Show & Tell
This summer Karla's daughter made this
stained glass window
for her Creative Arts project in 4H
we call it:
Whoo's Van Gogh
"Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh |
In her book she learned about many artists
and their works of art.
She wanted to do a mosaic for her
"final project"
Since we had so many old windows we suggested
she mosaic one of those.
Since you'd be looking out of a "window" scene...
she thought of Starry Night...but wanted to add
something that would make it more....her
and that is where the
OWL Comes it!
So she made a template with the design on it
and taped it to the back of the window
She then took different colored sheets of mosaic glass
and put them into some enamel bowls, put a plastic bag
around it and hammered away to break up the pieces
Then the fun began!
She glued the glass pieces onto the window panes.
She said it was like putting a puzzle together.
She also thought it was a lot like
playing Blokus (one of our favorite family games)
because you had to find pieces that fit in tight spots
She worked on this for a couple of weeks.
She thinks that she put about 22 hours time into it....
When all of the glass was in place
she grouted it
(using a black grout, since it was a nighttime sky)
She thought that this was the hardest thing
to do in the project....
it was thick and quite messy!
After it dried, she then buffed all of the glass
to get the grout off of it.
Ta-Da
A fun window project!

The window turned out just beautiful. I don't know if I would have the patience to do it~!
It turned out so beautiful! She did a wonderful job.
4-H offers so many wonderful oportunities and learning experiences for kids. It is wonderful that your daughter takes advantage of this wonderful club. The project is just beautiful. Will she enter it in a fair?
Hi Girls!
WOW! I am sooo impressed!! The mosaic window is spectacular. I took a stained glass course at TU when in my 20's and never made anything near as fabulous as this window. It should win a prize. You have quite an artist in your midst.
Big hugs, "Edie"
PS Stop by and see the post I did on your shop when you have a chance. Memoriesssss!
