Sing a Song of Sixpence

"Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?"

I've always loved this ditty....
it must have made quite an impression on me
when I read it as a child!

So, when we got a box of goodies the other day,
and we opened it up to find these pie birds,
I smiled and thought of all of those birds
flying out of the king's pie!

Those are the prettiest pie birds! Not a baker but could see why someone would want one of those to cheer up the kitchen.

The pie birds are too cute. But what is a pie bird? Are they just for decoration, or do they do something special like sing when the pie is done. :D
