A Decorating War

Things might look pretty normal around here.
I mean...you'd never guess that this was a WAR ZONE!

Yesterday, I had put a bit of spring touches on my fireplace....and today.....

The infantry had come to set up camp! What do you think? Do you allow your kids to have their toys around the house, or are they in a certain area?

Let me tell you - the army will stay for a bit...however, it will go - but how can you say no....when they are having so much fun?

Do you know what I love most about my kids? Their imagination. How fun is it to play with your plastic army dudes all over the house? Don't get me wrong....I know I'll end up finding the forgotten ones....

Decorating wars! When I first glanced at it, I thought you were having a tussel with a client! LOL I LOVE your gorgeous oak mantel! I am so jealous!
I also love that the kids have Old Glory proudly displayed along with the Army men among the springtime finery. That's very cool. As for having toys all over the house... I'm sure my now-grown (29-year-old!) son would still not hesitate to tell how "mean" I was. We had a rule... if it was not put away in his room at the end of the day (in other words, left out for me to stumble over) it got confiscated for awhile. If nothing else, he learned (the hard way!) to pick up his toys!
But these little Army guys are tiny and arranged so nicely, and now that I'm a Grandma... I say let 'em leave a few things like this around. Its their house too. And they grow up all too soon!
Nice story. Thanks for sharing.

Loved the War Zone. This brought back such fond memories of me and my bro's playing in similar fashion.

You have such a gorgeous fireplace and mantel! Even though I was smitten with the war zone. Don't be fooled as I too was ogling that beautiful meaty wood too.

Happy Spring!

i think they look cute with your decor, but if you want to relocate them, ask the kids to display them somewhere else & see if you can find them; that way it's also a game of hide & seek :) see you soon, i hope! gio

Had to chime in even though the post is now "old."

In general, toys were either in their rooms or in the family room (and put away).

However, I always encouraged the kids to present special requests -- well argued given more credence -- for special dispensations. So a well-staged battle (where people wouldn't trip on them) would probably be allowed to stay up for a week! (The whole oral argument theory is why 2 out of three are on their way to being lawyers....)

Then again, I was the mother who arranged for a wheel barrow full of mud so my deprived suburban children could experience the glory of mud this farm girl remembered....
