Shadow Shot Sunday

It has been rated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders.

Last weekend we traveled to Las Vegas for a long weekend with friends. Our favorite day was our trip to the Hoover Dam - it is truly amazing and awe-inspiring when you see what men accomplished during the Great Depression.

There were some really great shadows, so I hope you enjoy them as you pick out your favorite....

We took a tour inside of the dam. one of my favorite shots was of the tunnel leading to the vent to look out at the river....you could fit two people side by side comfortably to look out of the vent - once it was our turn - the view was fantastic!

Here we looked at more tunnels - steps....lots of them - glad we didn't need to walk up all of them!

Here is the room with the generators. We were in luck, for they were repairing the turbine from #4 and we got to see it - I guess it isn't a sight that many guests get to see....

Do you see the white car at the bottom - just so you can get an idea of the size of this thing!

After the tour I snapped this picture of the other side of the dam. The white on the rocks is calcium deposits from the water - showing how high it got back in 1983.

Here are two of the four intake towers. These two were on the Arizona side - the other two are on the Nevada side.
I have so many pictures.....I had to narrow down the 273 for this post (ok, ok - that includes Vegas shots too - only 130 were of Hoover Dam!!)

A tribute to the men that built the dam.
If you are ever remotely close to the Hoover Dam, and haven't been there - it come highly recommended!!
Enjoy your Sunday everyone! Check out more shadows over at Hey Harriet today!

130 photos of the Hoover Dam? Golly gosh! I like all these ones & my fave is the third tunnel shot. Love the look of that one! I wouldn't want to climb all those steps either. Yikes! Wish I could visit the Hoover Dam! Have a great Sunday :)

We went over the damn once when I was a kid on the way to California, what an awe-inspiring vision is was for little eyes.

What did we ever do without digital cameras...ha!

Great shots! The dam certainly is an amazing engineering feat! I'm afraid of heights so I remember being pretty shaky while we were there.

The second and third shots are my favorites. I love the shadow curve in #2 and the view, that view! in the second must have been something to behold. Thanks for sharing.

This brought back memories. I haven't taken the tour, since I was a girl, in the dark ages! Now, when we're over that way, we admire Hoover Dam's beauty, but just keep driving.

Those are some awesome photos and shadows. I almost posted photos of the Hoover Dam. My son went a few years ago and took pictures. Thanks for stopping by my place.

Hi girls, that is an awesome dam, quite amazing what they did achieve - i agree. The white calcium build up is interesting, and so definite. I know what you mean about shooting so many photos at one place, i find myself doing exactly the same, thank goodness for digital and delete!! Happy week to you girls :0)

Thanks for the awesome shadows, and for the wonderful insight into the dam! I'm always a sucker for wanting to know how things work, and this was great!

How amazing! Whenever I see the Hoover Dam, I think of the romantic comedy, Fools Rush In. The girl in the movie has her baby while on it! :) Love your photos!

Haven't been inside Hoover Dam but have been over it a couple of times when we flew to the Grand Canyon.
