You Scream, I Scream We All Scream for ICE CREAM!

Great for the Forth of July...or any day!  This is guaranteed to be the richest and creamiest ice cream you have ever had! Freezes well, too. Pair it up with your favorite All-American pie & enjoy! 

Homemade Ice Cream

4 cups milk

2-3/4 cups sugar

3/4 tsp. salt
2 small packages French vanilla instant pudding
4 cups half & half
2T. vanilla
4 cups whipping cream

Scald milk until bubbles form around edge. Remove from heat. Add sugar, pudding and salt. Stir until dissolved. Stir in half & half, vanilla and whipping cream. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes. Freeze. Makes 6 quarts.

***After refrigerating 30 minutes, you can freeze your ice cream in an ice cream freezer (we use a 1-1/2 gallon electric) - crank or electric, until the ice cream stiffens around 20-30 minutes.  (thanks Jane!!)

Gerbera

This week we had a lot of Gerber Daisies in the store.  Karrie was working on bouquets for a wedding, while I was snapping some shadows of these happy flowers.

So, when we were getting this post ready, I thought I'd put the Latin name of the Gerber under the picture.  Usually it's some long, fanciful name...nope!  Gerbera - I think you all can figure that flower name out!  So...while checking out the latin name, we saw that the Gerber daisy represents happiness and friendship....perfect for our Shadow Shot Sunday friends!

This is one of our favorite pictures of our grandma Norma....in fact - we use it in the frames that are for sale in the store....this picture usually sells the frame - people purchase it for the picture!!

For quite some months, I've been admiring pillows from

This is the first pillow that I needed to have....

mmmmmm......this will be perfect on my porch....not that the porch is quite ready for it at the moment (I need to finish painting the furniture & the cushions are almost all done!), but give me two more weeks & this pillow will be setting pretty on the settee!

This is the second pillow that I needed....well, I didn't need it, but my son's room needed it! He's got that Army theme going on...and what better to pull it together, than to put a Swiss army blanket pillow on it?!!

I just love my Red Bird Vintage Home pillows...

I love details that Kay puts into every one of her pillows.

Of course, I think its great that she repurposes things to make such delightful things.

What a crew!

This picture was taken a few years back. In case you didn't know, our dad refinishes Airstream trailers. This particular year he got the grandkids t-shirts and had them pose like they were polishing a trailer. As we were flipping through quotes, we saw this one from John Cleese, and immediately knew which picture we'd put with it!

This is a great quote...and you could easily insert "children" or "students" in place of workers - couldn't you?

Hello Hostas!

Karrie grows loads of Hostas in her garden ....

Green looks good, doesn't it?!!


This year she planted some Hostas in her planters for something different. (There is a bonus in planting perennials in your planter....plant them in the fall & they'll come up for you next year!)

Now....have you ever done this with Hostas?

For our garden party last week, Karrie touched on entertaining outdoors. She took hosta leaves and tied them around glass hurricanes....


So simple and fresh looking....everyone loved it!

How about hostas wrapped around a floral vase?

This was my favorite - in fact, I made sure that we took it into the store for the week. The lavender and the green hosta leaves look like they were made to be paired together!

This week we were out at Karrie's house taking pictures of her garden area & porch for an upcoming blog post. There, we found the most lovely shadows. This was our favorite - so we thought we would share!

Today we have an old photo of Grandpa when he worked down in Florida as the park manager at Travelers Rest. While he was there, he did a lot of excavating. We always heard plenty of stories about gators....which were amazing stories to his Ohio grandchildren, who only saw such things at the zoo, behind the glass!

This quote is fitting for the man who helped create a beautiful trailer park - and is a perfect reminder that success doesn't just happen, there's a lot of work that goes with it!

A Seat of Honor

All last week we were rearranging displays at the store.
This one is one of our favorites....

High atop our tea & scone cabinet is a child's chair, one of our darling appliqued tea towels, and a vining geranium....don't forget the tea pot!
