Wednesday Words

" Woof"
Skippy says it's time for Wednesday Words!
Grandma Norma loved her dog Skippy. Mom always heard stories about Skippy, and when we started going through family photos... lo and behold - we found lots of pictures of Skippy.

We have a fun story to share with you about Grandma - see those heavy stockings she had on? Her mom would always send her to school wearing them (because all of her older sisters had to, you see). Well, being the youngest....and fashions changing, grandma never wanted to wear those stockings. So, instead of fighting with her mother, she'd slip those stockings off on the bus and tuck them into her bag...then before she got back home, she'd slide them back on again.
Sneaky Grandma!

Wednesday Words

"The body says what words cannot."
~Martha Graham

we're giving you a little time to laugh - ok - maybe a little more than a laugh....
we were rolling on the floor, crying when we picked out this quote!
(We love ya Aunt Cheri!!)
Thank you to Dad's cousin Betty Jean who sent us a lot of fun family pictures...but this one took the cake! She wrote that this lovely picture of our dear aunt was taken in 1962 during a skating party at their house - what a find Betty Jean! Thank you!!

Whistle While You Work

Well....I'm at the point that I feel like whistling while I work at least!
What we have here is my downstairs bath.
Don't worry....I have lots of pictures to share when I finally have the "big reveal!"
But now, I'm happy to say, I'm at that point...
you know the point...

Where you start to pick out the accessories for your room...
yes...the very best point - the time when all of that thought, tears & sweat you've put into a room gets decorated!

This little bathroom is under the stairs & to give it some more visual room, we tore out a little bit under the stairs. The day our construction guru came over, I had him tell me how big of a piece of furniture I could put there....I found out, went shopping with the girls & came home with an old wicker desk - this perfect shade of green (with lots of chippiness on the legs!)

It goes perfect with a picture that I had hanging in the bath...and looks so super with the rug sample that I found today....ahhhhh
what a day to whistle while I work!!

Wednesday Words

Laundry Today or Naked Tomorrow

It's time for Wednesday Words...and the laundry is calling!
Isn't this an inspirational quote to put in your laundry room? Kind of puts things in perspective. We got to thinking - this quote won't work well if you are in a nudist colony though....ha!
We found this picture in our stash from an estate sale in New Jersey last fall. What talent these women had - to hang their laundry from high above - and not loose it every day! (We'd have been up and down those stairs to pick it up toooo many times, we're sure!)

"Good Boy!"

It's not so "ruff"
Take a charming old planter...

...and plant your cell phone...or glasses in it
don't you just love using old things?
(We knew you did!)

Easy Entertaining

Love it!
How easy is this great idea from Southern Living Magazine?
Chalkboard Paint & Glasses
Doesn't get any simpler - or cuter for that matter!
(Put this one in the idea file for sure!)

It all started with Grandma's jewelry box....

That's right....just one visit & "just take any of that old junk - I don't know why you would want it." That's all it took...the rest is, well, it is history I guess...isn't it?
Last night I was trying to organize my vintage jewelry...and thought I'd share a few pieces....
(maybe I shouldn't say share...but show!!)

Some of the enamel pins that I've collected. Grandma's orange flower is there on the right

Since that time we've picked up a pin here....and earrings there....

Here are two necklaces that I wear...wish I could take a picture of Karrie's pendants - she's got some great ones...perhaps another post!

People always comment on our jewelry - we just love old, vintage pieces!
Grandma's pearl pin is up top (with the gold) and her earrings are the pastel ones
Rhinestones, pearls, enameled...we love it all!

The bottom two are Grandma's as well....if she could only see us wearing "these old things" now!!

When we go to flea markets & estate sales, jewelry is always high on our list!

The crown, and the two Sapphire pendants are Grandma's as well!

So, thanks Grandma (we think!) for starting such a fashionable habit!
What have you inherited from your Grandma?

Live Simply

Live Simply...easier said than done!
We came across this article at Country Living this week, and thought we'd share!
It is so refreshing to see an ever-so-humble cottage
especially so, when it belongs to an acting duo!

Country Living is featuring the vacation home of Emmy Award winning Tony Shaloub and his wife Brooke Adams. We adore the simple colors and furnishings of this Martha's Vineyard cottage.Tony's sister-in-law built this bed for the couple's daughter, and Brooke sewed the curtains herself.
This is the original Formica top...isn't it grand? We are just smitten with this kitchen - just enough color - we couldn't think of anything better for a cottage kitchen!
To read more about Tony Shalhoub's cottage, as well as see more pictures of it, visit Country Living.

Wednesday Words

Quit hanging on to the handrails . . .
Let go.
Surrender.
Go for the ride of your life.
Do it every day.
~Melody Beattie

It's Wednesday Words! Do you think Aunt Jane
contemplated taking a ride on that motorcycle?
Would you?

Shadow Flutter

Happy Easter!
Today we spotted some soft shadows
on our new butterfly paperweights.
Flutter on over to Hey Harriet to find more lovely shadows from around the world!

"The mark of your ignorance is the depth
of your belief in injustice and tragedy.
What the caterpillar calls the end of the world,
the Master calls the butterfly."

Eggs-traordinaire Eggs

It's crunch time...time to get those Easter Eggs decorated!
Last year we made these eggs right before Easter, and never had a chance to post...so enjoy!

We used Duck eggs, because we read that the shell was harder and would stand up to the pressure of polking a hole in them, and getting the yolk out....some eggs didn't fare so well!

We photo copied some images that we had around the house and cut them into ovals to mod podge onto the eggs.

Ribbons
and Markers
to decorate the eggs with

We liked
how they turned out...in fact we had every intention in getting more done this year....maybe next!!

No Foolin'

We're serious...we have some of the best tea around!
Our Summer Kitchen Exclusive Blend is truly out of this world wonderful!
It's a black tea made with vanilla, macadamia nuts, maple, caramel and toffee.
(hungry yet?)
It is a loose tea, so you might need to get one of these mesh snap balls to put your tea into so you can brew yourself a cup!

....and while you are at it, you might as well make some yummy scones from Catherine.
mmmmmm...so good!
(no foolin'!)
