Don't Play With Your Food

Decorate with it!

By taking floral pics, you can transform these artichokes into a beautiful bouquet!

Got to love lemons....but they tend to fall out of the bowl - take toothpicks to hold them together! Tuck daffodils, or another favorite flower, here and there to create a pretty centerpiece!

image from Midwest Living

True simplicity - and no dying required! Line a bowl with lettuce leaves & add white & brown boiled eggs - we love this idea!

We know the kids would go for this...a Brussels sprout topiary is better than Brussels sprouts on the plate....it does look striking this way - don't you think?!

What's On Your Drawers?

If you didn't know it already - we love wallpaper
Since we don't have anything to wallpaper on the walls in our homes at the moment, we're looking for some furniture, because we love this!

image from Better Homes & Garden
The wallpaper just makes these drawers pop!
One roll of wallpaper is all you'd need for something so pretty - just imagine the possibilities!

This decoupaged dresser from Martha Stewart
How about vintage botanical, floral or bird prints? Look on eBay or estate, or garage sales for wall paper remnants, pages out of books, blueprints, anything to put on the drawers - you just need some wallpaper paste - and voila!

Fast and fabulous decorating projects article from Better Homes & Garden

Pick your paper out first, then pick out a fabulous paint color that compliments the paper.

Don't have a dresser?
How about a cabinet or shelf?
Wallpaper makes anything pop!

Wednesday Words

"There are big ships and small ships.
But the best ship of all is friendship. "
~Author Unknown

It's time for Wednesday Words! Here we have a picture with Grandma Betty (2nd one in on the left in the brown) and Great Grandma Zera on the far right. They must have had an outing with the Ladies Aide group at church, because we see some familiar faces.
Got some words that you love? Put them up on your wall with our Wall Enhancers!

Oh, Where Do You Gather Your Eggs?

We went on an egg hunt today...
and found some of the places that we have stuffed eggs in the store

We began to wonder.....
Where do you put your eggs for Easter decorating?

Once you start placing eggs, you sure do find a lot of spots to put them!

The next question would be...
Do you have enough eggs to go around in those clever places?

So tell us...
Where do you gather your eggs?

A Package of Shadows

Yesterday, while we were bagging up some sales, we saw some shadows

They came from the grosgrain ribbons that hold the tags on our bags

I got some pretty silly looks as I snapped these pictures
(I think the customer thought I lost it for sure!)

Whether we've lost our minds or not - we love shooting our shadows & joining Tracy in Australia for Shadow Shot Sunday, where the best gift of the weekend is visiting your friends from all around the world and admiring their shadows!
Do come and join us at Hey Harriet this week & unwrap your shadow craze!

Lasagna Gardening

Last Thursday night, we had our Salsa Gardening Class with Catherine

We picked out different ingredients to create our own salsa garden

tomatoes
onions
cilantro
peppers

We were all captivated by a new-to-us way of gardening that Catherine shared with us

It's called Lasagna Gardening
Have you heard about it?

According to ask.com Lasagna Gardening is "a no-dig, no-till organic gardening method that results in rich fluffy soil with very little work from the gardener."

This really caught our attention!

Boy, did it feel good getting our hands in the dirt!
Isn't playing in the dirt the best?

Now we just water & wait!
Planting time will be here before we know it!

Check out Lasagna Gardening by Patricia Lanza
and give it a try this year!

Decorating with Silver

Golly, we just love using silver pieces in the store and at home.
Many customers love it, but just don't know how to decorate with it,
so we thought we'd show you two ideas of how we like to use it:

We love grouping little vignettes together on silver trays....no matter what the size!

We also love putting things into our silver pieces - like this darling little chick in a nest - it fits perfectly inside this old silver gravy boat!

So....we ask
How do you use your silver?

A Flock of Shadows

Welcome to Shadow Shot Sunday!
This week we have been transforming the store for our Spring Open House this coming weekend
We have huge tree branches sticking out of the front display with some sweet bird pictures.
The diamond pattern is coming from the prism of the glass.
The shadows it made made us think of our favorite meme!

For more shadows fly on over to Hey Harriet!

Feel a little blue, and maybe pink too!

With the breath of spring air outside, we figure that these two happy prints would bring that feeling indoors as well.

Such a beautiful day today - hope you all are enjoying it!

It's Friday...what are you in love with today?

Wednesday Words

Life itself is not the destination…It is the journey.

Goodness! It's been sunny and gorgeous here in Ohio for the past few days. Monday we went gallivanting with our favorite Art teacher & friend.
Karrie got the most gorgeous flow blue
(one bowl even had a wonderful M initial in the center!)
Karla got some brown transferware, a bird pocket to put on that new wallpapered room & Ruth got planters-a-plenty & some very pretty floral prints
(not to mention a super cool turquoise chair from the 40's....too bad we didn't have a video of us all trying to get it into her car though!!)
Anyway, we've been enjoying the sun and have been thinking that soon we'll be able to get the old convertible out & cruise along, just like Grandma & Grandpa in our picture of the day!

Wednesday Words are brought to you by our Wall Enhancers and our Alphabet Images.
Got Words? Get them on your walls!!
Remember to go & make a journey to remember today!

Daffy Shadows

Daffy-down-dilly came up in the cold,
Through the brown mould
Although the March breeze blew keen on her face,
Although the white snow lay in many a place.
~ Anna B. Warner

No...we have no daffodil's outside yet...but we are seeing our potted silk ones fly out of the door this week. Sunshine, robins & melting snow are here - so we should be getting some sign of the real thing some time soon!
It's that time of the week again - time to view some shadows from all around the world at Shadow Shot Sunday. Visit Hey Harriet and get in on all of the fun - for shadows know no season!

It's Friday....and We're in Love

Today we are in love with this picture.
That ceiling is amazing
and, it got us thinking.....we could cover up an outdated popcorn ceiling with reclaimed wood
hmmmmm......
Check out Better Homes and Gardens , where you will find this Belgian-style American home. You should go see the other pictures - you'll find lots of wood pieces that are well worn and look centuries old....
*sigh*
It's Friday!
What are you in love with today?

Wednesday Words

A good battle plan that you act on today can be better than a perfect one tomorrow
- Gen George S. Patton

Here's a picture of grandma Norma's brother-in-law Art (on the right) & a buddy while he was in the service during the war. We came across a whole bunch of of these pictures of him at the family reunion last year. Since Uncle Art and Aunt Ruth didn't have any children...we, of course, took it upon ourselves to be the "keepers" of the pictures!

Things are Bloomin'

Things are blooming inside at least!

Karrie's been creating some pretty wreaths to brighten up the front of your house or the inside of your home. Yesterday we put out our spring wreaths. Karrie puts hers on her doors, and I put mine on my porch beside my door. Boy....did it feel good!

Top-O-The Mornin'

'Tis a fine day
This first of March!

We thought we'd show you some cute little gnome men vases we found at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago...they are just too cute...

and remind us of leprechauns...

which remind us of March

And, since it is March we thought we should share them with you!

So.....
Here they are.....

And here's a funny riddle to get you in the mood for St. Patrick's Day ~

What is out on the lawn all summer and is Irish?

Paddy O'Furniture!

hee hee hee hee!

Happy Monday!
