A Family {Christmas} Tree

Hello everyone!
Sorry that we haven't been blogging of late.
We've been with relatives from out of town
for several days.
Recently our Grandmother Betty passed away.
She was quite the lady, and we will miss her terribly.
But, we have such treasured memories of her
that will stay with us all of our lives!

Grandma Norma & Grandma Betty were our
inspiration  for our vintage ladies that we use in our
ads and  our business cards and website.

We call the girl on the left Norma, and the girl on the right is Betty.
We often wonder what they would have thought
about being
"The Summer Kitchen Girls"
(and about all of those pictures we use for
Wednesday Words for everyone in the world to see!!!)

Anyway, inspired by family, love of pictures
(and grandmothers!)
we decided to create a Family Tree

We took vintage saucers
(you can find these easily...as people don't know what
to do with  saucers without the cups!!)

Then we photocopied our favorite pictures
and cut circles that would fit the center of the
saucer plate.
Then we put a glue dot on the center
(you could do something more permanent if you'd like to!)
Then we placed the picture on the glue dot,
centering the picture.
(do you recognize the real Summer Kitchen Girls?)
Add plate hangers and ribbons and
hang on the tree.
You'll have a living Family Christmas Tree.
Full of memories of those you love!

"Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose."

Shadows Served Up on a Platter

Late in the afternoon, we catch some
great shadows in the store!
We love the shadow the handle of the
silver urn makes on the vintage platter
Then, on the platter is a shadow from a
wire card/picture holder
that was in the window,
making a lovely shadowed background
for the big man in White!

Come join us this weekend as we
get the dish on shadows
from all around the world at Hey Harriet !

Wednesday Words

Don't you just love this quote...not to mention the picture!
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree
is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other
you gotta love it!

It's time for Wednesday Words, and a family picture.
Here is great grandma Copley with her daughters and daughter-in-laws.

When this side of the family got together - there was a lot of laughter & fun.

What do we remember...
LOTS of cousins to play with
as well as aunts and uncles to watch to make sure we behaved.
During Christmastime,
we'd all get together and bring white elephant gifts.
Inevitably there was always something that got passed on year to year...
and everyone wondered who would be the one with it!

Fond memories of family.
That's what its all about!

Seeing is Believing Shadow

As we were closing up the shop we noticed this shadow.
Do you Believe?

The other day, Karla's youngest asked his older brother
if he believed in Santa.
She held her breath...but was tickled with the wise words
from the oldest...
"Well, Yea"...almost with a "duh!" tone.
(He was satisfied with that answer!)

Today we are chasing shadows with the rest of the world on Hey Harriet...
Come on and join us...we believe that you'll have as much fun as we do!

It's Friday & We're in Love...

Decorating for Christmas, of course!
This is one of our favorites...
We love taking special, vintage Christmas ornaments
and giving them star treatment.
Why not on top of a beautiful vintage silver bud vase?It makes for an elegant look!

Want a more casual look?

We've used new bulbs on top of old whitewashed candlestick holders as well!
How are you going to display your Christmas bulbs this year?

It's Friday...What are you in love with?

Gloria!

We have to smile...
whenever we head over to the garden section - we have the most fabulous angel
looking up to the heavens praising God
...and holding purses & scarves
Could it be that she's thanking Him for all of the accessories?
Probably not, but it does make us smile every time we see it!

Purse Love Trunk Show
is set up - come take a sneak peak before it officially starts tomorrow
for our

Joyeux Noel Open House
Friday 10am-8pm
Saturday 10am-5pm
Sunday 1pm-5pm
(Sunday Joan Reinbolt, accessory consultant from Purse Love will be at the store to help you with your selections for yourself & others!)
