Shadows So Good, You Can Smell 'Em

'Twas a week before Christmas.....

No one was sleeping....

No sugarplums that you could see....Just lots of baking for guests,
that were coming to the tea!

As we opened the oven last night to check on the scones......you guessed it Shadows!

This is the third year that we have hosted the Christmas Tea



It is held inside of the Victorian Home in front of our shop.
{of course, we call it Home...for we grew up here!}

The reason for a benefit for the Bethesda Alzheimer Unit?

Both of our grandmothers were diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

So...in remembrance of Grandma Norma

and in honor of Grandma Betty

we decided to host this tea.

Our guests meet in the store for a Party Cheesball and Spiced Christmas Tea

Then we escort them into the house

This year we started out with Creamed Sweet Potato Soup and and Pesto-Cheese Pastries

Smoked Salmon Cheese Cups

Mini Beef Wellingtons

Bacon-Wrapped Figs

Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms

Were all served next

After the Buttermilk Scones we had a lovely piece of Aunt Millie's Cheesecake with Lemon Caramel Sauce.

Stringing-a-long

While in NYC over Thanksgiving we fell in love with the windows at Kate's Paperie

Isn't it the cutest?

Well, it inspired us for a fun-filled activity with the kids....and of course a blog post!

We found some Scrap Booking paper with a Christmas Theme

Found a stapler {it even had staples in it....whooo hooo!}
We cut the paper into 2" strips
Then we made some paper loops and stapled them together
Hang them at home in the archways....over bed frames....we are even giving some away!
See what simple fun you can have with some paper & a stapler?

{not to mention...it keeps the kids busy!!}

We come from a musical family. We all grew up singing - what a happy way to grow up! Here's an old picture from 1967 of the choir at our church...ready to sing the cantata "The Night the Angels Sang" for Christmas.

Holiday Shadows

...and what to our wondering eyes should appear...a toboggan with presents...and shadows our dears!

Well...it's not up on the housetop - but it is on top of the candle hutch!

One of our favorite displays at the store this year was an old toboggan that we found in September. We piled it with presents and a "freshly cut" tree....we found a wonderful green shadow this week!

A Taste of Ohio

Thursday is our Taste of Ohio from 4pm-9pm

Re-purpose An Ornament

These crystal ornaments have been popular at the store the past few years.

This year, we brought them back, but with a twist...and a bow!

What a great idea for any ornament you have at home...here's how you do it....

Take one ornament

Take wire & ribbon

Make a bow with a long loop in the middle & wire it on the ornament

Use the ornament around your cloches, lamp switches or your dresser's knobs...anywhere to bring a festive look to your home for the holidays!

Botanical Shadows

Last weekend we had the pleasure of visiting the New York Botanical Gardens.
There we saw the original Yankee Stadium, majestic St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and some of New York’s most treasured Hudson River mansions and the bridges that take you from one side to another!

Be amazed as you gaze at these works of art....and take note because all recreations are made entirely from natural materials!

The Smell of Christmas

Pine is a funny scent to try to capture...some can be so strong, some sooo fake!
