Wednesday Words

"Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart."
-Erma Bombeck

Yep....Erma always had a way of saying things! Thanks for joining us for Wednesday Words....of course brought to you by our Wall Scape Words.

We also bring you a wonderful recipe for Pink Lozenges Cake....mmmmm....curious?

PINK LOZENGES CAKE
40 pink lozenges candies
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 cups flour
3 tablespoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 egg whites
3 tablespoons cold water

Place lozenges in bowl with milk. Cover & refrigerate overnight. This will make 1 1/4 cups liquid. The following day, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two round cake pans. Cream together butter and sugar; set aside. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In large bowl, beat egg whites and water until stiff. Add butter and sugar mixture to egg whites. Add one cup of the lozenges liquid, reserving 1/4 cup liquid for the icing. Gradually add flour mixture. Pour mixture into cake pans. Bake 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.

Icing: Add remaining 1/4 cup milk and lozenges liquid to your favorite white icing.

Delights

This past Saturday we had a great time entertaining 29 guests for our Progressive Tea Party with Beeker's General Store & Ivy's Vine.
It was the first time we ever tried a Progressive Tea, and everyone seemed to think it went very well.....you could say it was a Delightful day!
Each store had a different guest speaker. At Beeker's they had Anne Reeves signing her book Moments of Delight.
When we heard Anne was coming we went on her website to find out about her and her book. After doing our research, we were rather disappointed that we wouldn't be able to go on the Progressive Tea Party ourselves, so that we could meet her.
We requested that Beeker's hold a book for us when she came and we would pick it up later.....chance had it that she came to visit us & hand deliver our own copy!
Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of Anne with us {we were too busy waiting on our guests for that!}, but we did get to chat for a few minutes with her and were completely charmed!
Take some time to revel in some delights on Anne's website.....or visit her blog {she will be going to Paris soon, and will have lots of wonderful things to share!} Take time to see the gorgeous pictures in her book - we just love it's inspirations & beautiful pictures!
Have a delightful Monday!!

Camera's Vacation Shadows

Last weekend I was without a camera {it WAS really hard!}

It went on a long weekend to visit family in Bayonne & Staten Island.

It also got to visit the USS Intrepid. Camera enjoyed herself and the sunny Saturday she spent on the Intrepid.

Lucky us, she brought back some shadows {with some help from my son!}

{A control panel from one of the aircraft on deck
}

{A very cool helicopter that doesn't have too many shadows around it...however it will make the 13 year old's day to see it on the blog!}

So.....get ready to blast off to Hey Harriet for some more shadow shots from cameras {on vacation, or not!} all across the world!

What To Do With an Old Shovel

The other day the birds were having a hey-day playing in our simple solution to direct the water elsewhere. Made us smile...so we thought we'd share it with you.

What to do with an old shovel? Now you know....at least one idea!!

Fabric Love

We could look at paint chips and fabric swatches all day! There is just something about gathering fabrics, colors, and patterns that are so relaxing!

Don't you just love seeing bolts and bolts of fabric & samples. Fabric is such an important element in decorating - it truly can make a room feel finished when installed. Draperies, pillows, art, tablecloths, shades on your lamps - fabrics brings life to the room. Color, texture and pattern - they move the eye around your room and stimulate your brain. Have you ever walked into a room and just wanted to touch and feel the different fabrics and textures? {ok...maybe we're the only ones....naaaa!}

Sometimes we grab fabrics and fall in love with them....but.....where do we put it?

We found some inspirational fabric "to-do" videos on Southern Living Magazine. Do you have some time today? Sit and listen here as Style Guide Home editor, Jennifer Kopf give you the most wonderful ideas for using fabric!

Take time to get inspired and get those creative juices flowing!

Yummy Shadows

A sticky shadow appeared this week during our Bread Making Class with Catherine!

This Thursday we had our bread making class. Catherine shared her recipe...however....

We were sworn to secrecy!

No-knead bread so delicious.....

Just cut off what you need....

Then put it on a pan...cut some slices into the bread on top....then bake - just how simple was that? well.....how about a topping:

Olives, Rosemary and butter {well...smart balance butter....got to be healthy ya know!}

Mix it all in your food chopper and it will look something like this......

Try it out for yourself {we are allowed to share this recipe!}

Olive, Walnut & Rosemary Butter
1 cup Kalamata Olives
1/2 cup toasted walnuts
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 Tablespoon Fresh Rosemary
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup butter

Spread it on that freshly baked bread....just look at it melting right away....go ahead - help yourself while you enjoy more yummy shadows at Hey Harriet!

T-Shirt Round-up

It's that time of year....clean & purge!
We've been going through closets this month, pulling clothing out that the kids have grown out of. Piles are on the floor - one for the cousins, one for eBay, one for Goodwill, then there is THAT pile. The pile that has stains, holes, or missing pieces, and could never really be used again.....until now!

We were reminded of this picture from Country Home recently. They took old t-shirts and some canvas stretchers {from any craft or hobby store} and stapled the t-shirt right over it - instant art {not to mention fun & creative too!}

Do you have vacation t-shirts?
How great would a collage of all of the places you've visited be on a wall?

What a great way to re-use things that we didn't think of before!

Easter Blessings!

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

{Stanza from Christ Arose}

A Happy Easter to you all!

Egg-cellent Shadows

Made some dyed eggs this week, then some decoupaged eggs. This egg was one that we tried to get the yolk out of - but.... it didn't quite end up like it should have, however we saw a shadow worthy of Shadow Shot Sunday on it!

Visit Hey Harriet for more egg-cellent shadows!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend...
Easter Blessings
to you all!

Favoring the Table....

Looking for more table decorating inspiration for Easter?

How about some vintage jell-o cups?

Use them as little place favors with grass {real - like we used here...or artificial} and put Easter eggs in them!

No jell-o cups? Use some old tea cups - transplant some spring bulbs in them and set them as a place favor or table decoration.

Go on now....Hop to it!! Easter's only a few days away!

Wednesday Words

Having a place to go… is a home. Having someone to love… is a family. Having both … is a blessing.

Ahhh...the annual Cousin's Easter pictures of Karrie {the youngest} and I {the oldest} and our cousins {at least the first batch of them!}

Love this picture - reminds us of all the fun times had when our families would get together over the holidays!

Doors To Adore

Today we are joining Kari & Kijsa in their Doors to Adore post.

Here at the Summer Kitchen, we love doors - in fact we have 5 doors that display the wreaths that Karrie creates.

If there is one way we love to adorn a homes entry...it's with a wreath on the door.

We like to think that we create Adored Doors all over the county......

Our sign out front beckons to drivers {on occasion} things like:

"Hey...your door is naked - get a new wreath"
or
"Your door called....it wants a Summer Kitchen wreath"

What about you? How do you cover your door?
For some brilliant ideas - visit Kari & Kijsa today!

The Trouble With Shadows

This week we were up at the Cleveland Clinic. There is always something going on there, and it just so happens that I had the camera with me....and we saw that construction was almost done. Looking for some neat shadows, we saw these stones in front of the building. They are simple and, when filled with water, are fabulous - very zen-like.

See the article here about the pools of water & what they look like filled. We thought our Australian friends would like to know that the same design group that designed this also designed the Millennium Parklands in Sydney.

Now....I must share with you another water feature from The Clinic. There is this wonderful round, clear fountain up front. It looks like - well, jello, almost. I went to take a picture of it {for it was casting the perfect shadows}...and a police man came up and told me I was not to take a picture of it....well - "why??" I asked. He didn't know, only to tell me that there are only two in the world like it - and they didn't want pictures taken of it. *humph* I walked away {and, of course, tried to get a side shot, but....my finger was in the way}....whatever!

So, dear shadow enthusiast....I googled it and found it on this lady's flicker account - so go and check it out - before they arrest her and take this off of the web - ha!

See what other trouble shadow shooting can get you in over at Hey Harriet this weekend!!

Hooked on Two Dog Pond

You may remember that recently we won a necklace over from Two Dog Pond...

well....it came!

We just love the details that Rachel put into sending us the necklace...

the package, the ribbon, the business card, the tag on the necklace...and the little note.....

.....and Two necklaces....so we don't have to share - thank you Rachel!

So...head on over to Two Dog Pond, where every Monday you can make a comment and tell Rachel what the best quote on the back of the necklace should be......then....if you're lucky - it will appear on your doorstop....and if not - you can just order your own darling necklace!

See what everyone else is "HOOKED ON" this Friday at Hooked on Houses!

Get them while they last....

...and these will last forever - so don't even try to unwrap these bunnies!
Easter is almost here....how about a foil bunny to grace a special spot?
