A Special Visit

It started with a friendly "Hi - like your blog" then you blog back a friendly - "Thanks for stopping - like your blog too" ....soon you pop them on your list of "Delightful Blogs" , well, because you want to check in on them and see how they are doing!
We had a special visitor on Tuesday.....Sherry from Edie Marie's Attic and her girlfriend Cindy popped in to say hello in person! The only bad, awful part of this is that....I was not there!! It just so happens that this Tuesday, the only Tuesday I have missed at the store - was my son's doctor's appointment - bummer! Well, Karrie was able to be the gracious host in our humble store for our guests.
Now, if you have never been on Sherry's lovely blog yet, you must - she always has something quite fun and inspiring on her post. If you visit her today - you'll be able to see her wonderful kitchen - full of so many fun items - and unexpected ones (we love the window hanging above the counter with the baskets around it!!) After you've visited Sherry- we know that you will want to go back, that's just how it is in blog land!

We hope that you enjoy the tour of Sherry's kitchen - join us on Monday as we give you a "mystery" tour and you can join us as we tour other homes around the country!!

*Tomorrow is the last day to enter the "Christmas In July Giveaway" make sure you enter if you haven't already!!

Arrow replacements are coming in - this is one of our new favorites that we've received! A 1956 Beach Party Weekend

Elizabeth is having a beach party - and we're going to join her!! She would like to know what kind of beach party we would have. We spent quite a bit of time discussing just what would happen at a Summer Kitchen Party. First we started with the music - all the top hits of 1956 for your enjoyment! Then....what would happen if we were transported back in time.....

This party is the annual family get-together. Every year it is held at Norma's sister June and her husband Bob's cottage - right along Lake Erie. It makes for the perfect summer picnic, or, what the kids call a "rockin' beach party!"

A family function is that - family, family everywhere! Where did all those kids come from? My goodness, there are nearly 40 of them! You'd think there was a small convention going on at the cottage - there are cars parked clear down to the corner market!

Everyone is looking forward to the boat rides Bob will give. Later on many of the teens will water ski and show off!

For those seeking a calmer afternoon, floating along in an inner tube is preferred.

Of course, there is lots of swimming by the kids. Don't forget playing in the sand and making lots of sand castles. Watch out though - lots of uncles are getting buried in the sand by their nieces and nephews!

If you've never been to Bob and June's for a family function, you have never seen the likes of the meals here....everyone tries to outdo the other in something -fabulously delicious! Everyone is to bring a hot and cold dish - and no one ever goes hungry! I bet the food table is on is longer than the beach itself!!

Goodness! There is nothing like grandma's fried chicken - it's the best in the state, and gone before second helpings - so you better get it the first time around!!

Cousin Eleanor always brings her roaster full of baked beans - the men just love it! Everyone can't wait to see what Roy's wife Lois makes this year. Lois is one of those cooks that try new things all of the time. She came up with Ham Croquettes this year, out of the new Betty Crocker Cookbook. They were good - all the women got the recipe afterwards!

Ham Croquettes
2 cups mashed potatoes
1 Tablespoon fat
3 egg yolks
Cayenne
1 cup cooked ham
egg and crumbs

Mix potato, fat, yolks of two eggs, and cayenne. Beat until smooth, then set aside to cool. Chop the ham, mix with the other yolk, cook until mixture thickens and turn out to cool. When thoroughly cool, take a tablespoon of the potato mixture, make a hole in it and put a large tablespoon of the chopped ham inside. Close the hole and form ball. Dip into flour, then into egg. Roll in crumbs and fry in deep fat (375-390 degrees) from 2-5 minutes.

Then...there's the dessert table - you can tell which one that is by the amount of children around it! There are lots of jello desserts - a staple for all those little ones! Grandma Pearl made her famous soft sugar cookies - with just enough chocolate chips in them!
Don't forget Aunt Bea's Baked Buttermilk Apples - you know, she one a prize for those once! Every year she passes out the recipe - oh so good (all the new brides make sure they snatch up a copy of this one, or should I say all the new grooms!!)
Well - we grabbed you a copy -

Aunt Bea's Buttermilk Baked Apples
5-6 apples, peeled and cut in half
1 egg
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
Pinch of salt
4 Tablespoons flour
1/4 cup margarine
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Lay peeled and halved apples in baking dish 8 x 10.
Beat egg and add remaining ingredients.
Pour over apples and bake a 350 degrees for about 45 minutes or until apples are tender.

Now, of course Louise makes her peach cobbler - and Aunt Bea and Louise are always taking note of who's dessert disappears first! It's a competition - friendly, but still a competition every year!!

After lunch, everyone settles down. The little ones all lay down to take naps while the ladies clean up everything. All the men go and check out Danny's new convertible - he even talks mama Pearl into taking a ride - what a hoot!!

The day is nearly over - and the last little tired eye has closed! It's time for the adults to pack up their things and head back toward home. Kisses and hugs are given one last time - a prayer for a safe journey, and all are on their way.

Thanks for joining us for our 1956 Family Beach Party!! Hope you've enjoyed the day!

Farmer's Market

Well....it was big - bigger than anyone expected! In downtown Fremont they had the most wonderful Farmer's Market - one the city hasn't seen for some time! I overheard so many people talk about how nice it was and how nice it would be if it were going on every Saturday, instead of once a month!
People, food, fresh veggies, wonderful flowers, music and lots of artisans.

Of course, or herb expert Catherine of Reiter Landscaping was there - we had to buy some of her great organic granola (the kids loved chocolate chippy best!).

Then, Theresa was there from Cheeky Chic-y Studios. I have to tell you that she makes the most unusual purses. I just purchased on that is made from a vintage calender - LOVE IT!! The inside is just as cute as the outside -
so fun! What is really cool about Theresa, is that she has some of her fabric vessels in the new show "Material Matters" at The Columbus Museum of Art - we are so impressed!!

Theresa is such a creative artist - check out her work online, and if you can, the Columbus Museum of Art!

And We Were Seeing Red......and Purple!

Today we had a special treat - Queen Harlean and her group of Red Hatters came for a visit. We had tea (of course...!) and cookies and Karrie showed the ladies what to do with a wooden star that Queen Harlean brought in the store two weeks ago - ahhhh a challenge - we love it!
Thanks ladies for stopping in - it was truly a pleasure!!

Summertime

Lots of Summer things to tickle your fancy! As always, shells, shells, shells - they make any room feel like summer. The ocean glass votives are great - even for putting citronella candles in for those endless summer nights! Great pictures of the sea and ships.....

How about some garden stakes that are solar powered. When it gets dark - they light up the night!

Jute bags with 4 different flower designs on it. Oh-so handy to tote everything around!

Just one of Karrie's creations to brighten up your home!

One of our favorite summer items - the outdoor chandelier. Keep it simple or put plants in it, fruit, or even decorative seed, shell or moss balls....you can't go wrong with this!!

Christkindle Mart

Today was such a fun day in Pemberville. Not knowing what we needed to take - we feel that we gave a glimpse of what we had in the physical store! Lots of people came through, and we gave out almost all of the fans we made to keep cool! Here's some snapshots of things going on around town...

Brats and German potato salad.....ice cream and french waffles - all this and a cute little area to eat!
We were nestled in between Marcy "the candle lady" (who was just a delight to meet and chat with all day) and our very own Pat Wilson of Tea S'il vous Plait (nothing like having tea-o-plenty all day!!)

The rain is coming.....or is it going????

I have to stop here and say - that it did rain, but did not keep anyone from shopping....the big storm with hail and wind never came. It rained for about an hour - then cleared up nicely! Our favorite shop/stop in Pemberville is Beekers General Store. We tell people all of the time to visit - it is well worth it! It just has that quaint old-fashioned feel that you just don't get anywhere - you know?? Check out the inside - what fun!

This is such a fun store - and just look at all of the candy.....it's a sweet-lover's paradise!! No wonder their t-shirts boast "sweet" on the back!!

This is one of my favorite photo's from Beekers......call them anytime - and they will answer you on this phone! Isn't this place the cutest???

Thanks for coming along today!!
Don't forget to enter the drawing for the giveaway below - comment on any post from now until July 31st!!
